Suni Lee opened up about her recovery process amid her return from kidney disease
Suni Lee opened up about the struggles she went through during her recovery process from a kidney disease. Lee was diagnosed with this disease in 2023 owing to which she also had to abstain from the 2023 World Championships and the Pan American Games.
In an interview a few months back in October, Lee revealed that she was not able to do several activities upon her return to the gymnastics mat. She also mentioned apparatuses such as bars, floors and vaults were the most difficult routines for her during that period for her fitness. She said (via Glamour):
"The hardest thing was just waking up and going to the gym, forcing myself, because a part of me was just so embarrassed and ashamed to show my face. There are so many little girls in the gym that look up to me, and I just felt I was kind of letting them down, because I wasn’t able to do a lot of things. Bars, floor, and vault were really hard for me because I couldn’t even walk up a flight of stairs."
During the interview, Lee also shared that her coaches used to carry buckets for her in training sessions during that time as she frequently vomited for her medication.
