Three-time Olympic gold medalist Sarah Sjostrom married her long-time boyfriend Johan de Jong Skierus on Sunday (September 29). This comes just a month after the Swedish swimmer's impressive campaign at the Paris quadrennial event.

Sjostrom and Skierus had been dating for the past 12 years and officially got engaged two years back. The couple are now officially hitched with a new chapter set to begin for them.

Sjostrom took to her official Instagram handle to share a picture from her marriage ceremony that took place in the small town of Pienza, Tuscany. She didn't write anything in the caption and kept it subtle with a couple of emojis.

Here is a picture from Sjostrom's ceremony:

EventItalien, the event organizer group that managed the Swede's marriage ceremony, also shared a candid video:

Johan de Jong Skierus is a sabre fencer and has also competed for the Swedish national team. The 35-year-old has also clinched nine national championship medals including one gold. Apart from his fencing career, he has also worked in Danske Bank in the anti-money laundering department.

Competing in the fifth quadrennial event of her career, Sarah Sjostrom clinched two gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events for Sweden.

In the 100m freestyle event, Sjostrom registered a clock time of 52.16 seconds to beat USA's Torri Huske and Hong Kong Swimmer Siobhan Haughey for first place. Huske and Haughey eventually settled for a second and third-place finish in 52.29 seconds and 52.33 seconds respectively.

The Swede's performance in the 50m freestyle was even more impressive in Paris. She registered the Olympic record during the semifinal stage of the event after clocking a time of 23.66 seconds and then followed this up with another solid performance in the final (time of 23.71 seconds) to clinch her second gold of the event.

Following her gold medal-winning campaign at the French capital, the 31-year-old Swedish swimmer reflected on her performance. She said (via Swimming World Magazine):

"It’s unbelievable. This was definitely my best Olympics. I never thought I would win the two golds (at) my fifth Olympics. You never know what will happen, but I can definitely say, I’m not going to be better than this. This is the peak of my career, for sure. I’m so proud of what I’ve done my whole career."

With her two gold medals in Paris, Sarah Sjostrom now has six Olympic laurels -- three gold, two silver, and a bronze medal.
