Hurd is a two-time world champion, winning the all-around title in 2017 and the team gold in 2018. She has also claimed a silver on the balance beam and floor exercise as well as a bronze in the all-around. This impressive resume made the American a frontrunner to make the 2020 Tokyo Olympics team, but a string of bad luck forced her to put her elite career on pause.

In August of 2020, the youngster underwent surgery for her elbow, only to have to get operated on again in March of 2021. Hurd subsequently failed to perform at her previous levels, missing out on making the Olympic Trials after a disappointing finish at the US Championships.

After that, Morgan Hurd opted to turn her focus to her collegiate career, competing with the Florida Gators.

Morgan Hurd’s time with the Florida Gators

Morgan Hurd was scheduled to start competing with the Florida Gators in 2022, but injury struck again. This time, the gymnast was forced to undergo surgery for an ACL tear in her right knee, sitting out the whole of her freshman season. However, she excelled academically and was awarded the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-American. She also received an honorable mention in the Gator Gymnastics’ Heart & Soul Award.

2023 saw Hurd get back to the gym, competing primarily on the uneven bars and the balance beam. She once also stepped out onto the floor to replace injured teammate Rachel Baumann, scoring a 9.8245.

Morgan Hurd excelled as a junior in her 2024 season with the Gators. She competed in two events - the floor and the balance beam - and set collegiate bests in both. Her collegiate record for the floor was 9.95, which she scored while competing against Kentucky. She raised Florida’s balance beam best to 9.825 when competing against the Auburn Tigers.

She was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Roll in 2023 and 2024. Outside of gymnastics, Hurd is majoring in English and regularly engages in community outreach.
