Josh Kerr recently opened up on his dream of winning the Olympic title for the first time. The former World Champion spoke about going head to head against arch-rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 1500m in Paris.
Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen's rivalry has been one of the most discussed rivalries in track and field this year. The two athletes have been pushing the limits of the sport in every aspect to achieve greatness. With Kerr in peak form and Ingebrigtsen yet to make his season debut, the anticipation among track and field fans is at an all-time high.
Josh Kerr appeared in “Beasts: Unleashed” and spoke about many of his upcoming goals and his training for the Paris Olympics. The British athlete also mentioned that he would be going into the Olympics without any pressure as Ingebrigtsen is the defending champion.
" I want to do myself justice for all the hard work that I have put in and I feel like I have earned the right to have this conversation of about talking and going after the gold medal in Paris. I have to be realistic and know that I am not the current Olympic Champion. I am the current World Champion but you know Ingebrigtsen's the Olympic Champion and it's his title and it's his title to lose. I just need to have the belief and hopefully the training behind me will allow that dream to come into reality," he said.
Josh Kerr Vs Jakob Ingebrigtsen's next race
Jakob Ingebrigtsen skipped the entire initial leg of the 2024 season as he was recovering from an injury. The Norwegian athlete is all set to make his Olympic season debut at the Prefontaine Classic next week.
He would be competing against arch-rival Josh Kerr in the 1500m after going to and fro in the media during the season. In an interview with Times UK, Kerr opened up on his decision to compete in the Prefontaine Classic.
“I’m always going to speak my mind and I’m not going to let someone belittle my career with their comments. But I’m not going to combat that with my own comments. I’m going to combat that with results. It’s another reason why I wanted to run Prefontaine to show where I’m at and set my stall out for the season. It’s going to be a fantastic race, it’s going to be fast and I’m ready to battle it out for the win," he said.
The upcoming Prefontaine Classic is an important contest for both athletes as it would set their momentum for the Olympic Trials scheduled in June.
