American Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once expressed that money is insignificant to her, regardless of the amount she possesses or her profession, as it will all go away one day. She emphasized that it's her faith in God that matters the most to her.
McLaughlin-Levrone made the big revelation during her conversation with David Bush on the Fit For The King YouTube channel in April 2023. Bush asked her whether money, fame, or beauty takes away the problems from one's life and what it takes to be Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
The four-time Olympic champion responded by saying that no amount of money, fame, or beauty can eliminate anyone's problems. She emphasized that her relationship with God makes her forget what she looks like or the amount of money she has, as neither of them will last forever.
"I don't think money, fame, looks will ever take away anybody's problems; I truly believe they would only add problems," she said. "I'm so content with just my relationship with God that it doesn't matter what I look like, it doesn't matter what I do for a living, or how much money I have because, at the end of the day, all of those things will be; they won't come with me. The only thing I will have when I stand before God is what I did on this earth to glorify him." [12:14 onwards]
When Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone discussed a mistake that prompted her to improve her hurdling skills - "Stuttering on that eighth hurdle"
In a 2023 conversation with Citius Mag, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared that her stumble over the eighth hurdle during the 2019 World Athletics Championships 400m hurdles finals motivated her to refine her hurdling skills. The 25-year-old lost that race to Dalilah Muhammad and had to settle for a silver.
"I often think back to Doha 2019 and just stuttering on that eighth hurdle. Would it have made the difference? I don't know, but I think that's one of those things that encouraged me to want to work on my hurdling skills and work on my step patterns and all those things," she said.
You know, if I could have gone back and changed it, I can't say that it would have made a difference, but it's one of those things I'll never know, and I'm going to use that as motivation in the future to hopefully not do it again," she added [10:30 onwards].
The American is currently relishing her downtime after wrapping up her 2024 season at the invitational races during the Diamond League finals in Brussels.
