Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, strongly claimed that every world record is beatable. The Norwegian recently clinched the gold medal in the 5000m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 23-year-old unexpectedly faded to fourth, allowing Cole Hocker, Josh Kerr, and Yared Nuguse to take the podium. But he clinched the Olympic win in 5000m by clocking 13:13.66 and avenged the 1500m loss to Hocker at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League, setting a new meeting record of 3:27.83.

He then competed in the 3000m at the Silesia Diamond League, clocking a world record time of 7:17.55 to break the previous record by Daniel Komen in 1996. Jakob Ingebrigtsen lowered the longest-standing men's athletics world record in an individual track event.

Shortly after, seated in a pre-event press conference before the Diamond League finals in Brussels, Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed that every world record can be broken.

"I think it's possible to break every record. Of course, there are world records for a reason. Because it's the best performance by an athlete in history. But we've seen it not only this year but the last couple of years that all the different records are beatable," he said. (via Wanda Diamond League X post)

He also gave a reality check that lowering world record times can not happen overnight.

"But you can't just wake up and jump in a race and break a world record. So everything needs to be aligned. If you need to make a couple of attempts at least you have to make everything perfect," he added.

He also talked about his ability to break many records and how he didn't take too many attempts to achieve them.

"I think at my best and if I'm able to get a chance in many different events I think I have a good shot of beating many of them. Luckily I've been able to beat a couple at not too many attempts. So it's a good start."

The 23-year-old Norwegian has the 1500m (indoor), 2000m, and 3000m world records in his resume. At the upcoming Brussels Diamond League, a 1500m record break would eclipse Moroccan runner Hicham El Guerrouj’s long-standing achievement.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen shared his world record count and alerted rivals of more possible record breaks in the upcoming events.

"Three down, seven to go! What's next?" he wrote on his Instagram. (reported by Olympics.com)

Jakob Ingebrigtsen holds the two-mile world best time of 7:54.10, which he set at the 2023 Paris Diamond League. His effort bested the previous world-best time of 7:58.61 set by Daniel Komen in 1999.
