Aly Raisman talked about Jordan Chiles' impact in elite and collegiate gymnastics where she always brings her energy to the mat and bonds with her teammates. Chiles turned heads with her Prince-themed floor routine in the Bruins' second meet in the 2025 season.
Raisman was part of the US women's gymnastics team at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic editions. In her debut Olympic appearance, she won gold medals in the team and floor exercise and bronze in the balance beam. She continued her excellence in the 2016 Games, helping the US team defend gold in the team and taking individual silver in the all-around and floor exercise.
Having retired in 2020, Raisman stays invested in her sport through different roles. She also supported her younger counterparts who redeemed the gold at the Olympics last year. Among them was Jordan Chiles, who put in strong performances and impacted everyone with her electric energy.
"I feel like Jordan not only brings the amazing vibes everywhere she goes in collegiate gymnastics, but she's also had such a massive impact on the elite world, and watching her have so much fun in elite gymnastics and the way that she rubs off on her teammates, it's amazing to watch it, and I'm so proud of her," Raisman said (via USA Gymnastics Instagram).
Chiles once named the members of her dream Olympic team, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, Dominique Dawes, Simone Biles, and Madison Kocian in a candid conversation with Elle in July 2024.
"Dominique Dawes, Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Aly Raisman, and Madison Kocian. If you think about it, you’ve got your floor people, and then Maddie was a magnificent bar worker. And then you have your all-arounders who, no matter what, can be put in and feel confident when it’s time for them to shine," she said.
When Raisman competed in her final elite gymnastics competition in Rio, Chiles was at the junior level. Therefore, they never competed on the same mat.
Aly Raisman expressed disappointment over Jordan Chiles' medal fate after the Paris Olympics
Jordan Chiles initially finished fifth in the floor event but was later upgraded to third after her team appealed to FIG for a score change. After the Romanian Gymnastics Federation put forth Ana Barbosu's case and asked CAS for a re-evaluation since the US team was a minute later than the deadline, Jordan Chiles faced the hardest blow.
On August 11, 2024, the IOC announced that Jordan Chiles' bronze medal would return to Barbosu on CAS' ruling. Expressing disappointment, Raisman claimed that Chiles' fate was unacceptable since she got the medal when her team inquired at the 2012 Games.
"My inquiry was accepted and I was able to keep my medal, so to be honest, what Jordan’s going through is just so different from what I’ve experienced and it’s unacceptable," Raisman said via today.com.
"I don’t think people realize these gymnasts work their entire lives for this moment, and it’s supposed to be a celebration. his was one of my favorite moments at the Olympics, watching Jordan celebrate. I think it’s so unfair. It’s so cruel," she added.
Although Chiles still has the bronze medal with her physically, she doesn't own it Following the ordeal, she and her team took to the Swiss Federal tribunal for further evaluation.
