After Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was inducted into the University of Kentucky's Hall of Fame, the 400m hurdler gave a speech on receiving the honor. She was also given a special badge for her commendable achievements on the track in her entire career. The American, who attended the university only for a year in 2018, spoke about her time there, saying that she experienced growth and joy in the university.
"There were significant moments of growth, of joy that could never be replaced. There were people, many of which are sitting in this room that were more than I could explain in terms of friendship."
Talking about the hardships she faced during her year at Kentucky, she added:
"My year here was hard, I'm not going to act like it wasn't as it is for many college athletes all over the country but I wouldn't change it for the world honestly. I would not be the woman I am if I had not attended the UK (University of Kentucky)."
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone had a dominant 2024, and one of its highlights was the Paris Olympics. Following her gold medal win here, the athlete now has a total of four Olympic gold medals, of which two she won in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and two she won in the same events at the 2024 Paris Games.
