Lindsey Vonn recently spoke about skiing on a World Cup ski course for the first time in nearly six years. The American skier is aiming to make her comeback in the Alpine skiing World Cup circuit after making her professional comeback at the FIS Fall Festival in Colorado a couple of weeks ago.
The former World Cup Champion expressed her excitement about being able to return to the slopes professionally. Moreover, Vonn mentioned that she used her first appearance as a training session as well as an opportunity to test her equipment. She is optimistic and confident about being able to get back to performing at full potential as the season progresses.
Vonn attended the World Cup in Beaver Creek, but didn't compete professionally in the race. Instead, she took the opportunity to ski the World Cup course. In an interview at the venue, she discussed her experience of skiing on a World Cup track after a long time.
"It was really fun. It felt so normal. You know the first round of any new downhill, it is a little awkward and some turns I skied well, some turns I was a little bit conservative but it felt really good, I had such a good time and you know, inspecting with my teammates and kind of getting back to the rhythm everything felt as it should," she said.
Lindsey Vonn on her first appearance while coming out of retirement
Lindsey Vonn took to Instagram to speak about her first race after coming out of retirement. The American Alpine skier revealed how coming out of retirement after nearly six years has not been easy; however, she is enjoying the journey and considers her first appearance to be a success despite people claiming that she was slow.
"So I know we've all been talking about my comeback and it's been an amazing journey so far but it's not been an easy process and I kind of wanted to walk you guys through the process. I had to race this past weekend in order to get my points low enough so that I could compete in the World Cup whenever I was ready. So, the last weekend was a success and I know a lot of people were saying that I was slow but I actually thought that it was amazing," she said.
Furthermore, she revealed that despite qualifying for the World Cup, she would be taking some time off and participating in her first race only when she feels ready.
