Legendary gymnast Simone Biles expressed her views on the Olympic Trials after leading the lineup on Day 1 of the last leg of the women's selection for the Paris Games. She topped Day 1 after collecting a total of 58.900 points, surpassing Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee, who scored 56.400 and 56.025 points, respectively.
Biles executed a solid routine on the uneven bars, performing a Yurchenko double twist, collecting 14.425 points to secure second place behind Shilese Jones, who displayed her unwavering courage and determination after experiencing an unfortunate turn of events in the vault warmup.
Biles topped the floor exercise with 14.85 points, leaving behind Kaliya Lincoln and Jordan Chiles, scoring 14.15 and 14.1, respectively. Biles is competing at the trials to earn the Olympic spot for the third time. While speaking to NBC Olympics & Paralympics after the conclusion of Day 1 of the Trials, she voiced her opinion on the Trials, stating it was "stressful," but a positive one.
"It's stressful, it's heavy," Biles said. "It's one of the best pressure situations to be in going into the Olympics because I feel like if I could do this we could do anything."
"I just have to think about not blasting it to outer space," Simone Biles on her thoughts while performing vault
Simone Biles topped the vault event by collecting 15.975 points on Day 2 of the U.S. Olympics Gymnastics Trials 2024. She defeated Jade Carey and Leanne Wong, who earned 14.6 and 14.45, respectively.
During the same interview, she opened up on her process of performing a routine on the vault, stating she aims for a steady performance. The American gymnast also expressed her joy in executing a perfect landing after her vault routine.
"I have to think about a good, slow, steady run, a good round with chest in and then from there I just have to think about not blasting it to outer space and I kind of did that today but I opened, which usually when I'm in the gym, I over rotate," she said. "I'm still happy that I still had a little bit of more adrenaline and energy than I wanted to but I could still successfully landed."
Biles secured a gold medal in the event at the 2016 Tokyo Olympics. She will be seen competing next on Sunday, June 30, 2024, during Day 2 of the women’s competition.
