American artistic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik's "Dancing With The Stars" partner Rylee Arnold recently opened up about the challenges she faced with Type 1 Diabetes. Arnold made her television debut with "Dancing With The Stars Junior" in 2018 and became popular after joining DWTS in 2023, partnering with "Too Hot To Handle" star Harry Jowsey.

She has teamed up with double Olympic medalist from the Paris Olympics, Stephen Nedoroscik, for season 33 of the show, and the duo has made it to the semifinals.

As she recently revealed, the American dancing prodigy's life has not been easy, as she received a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis at the age of 15. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition that develops when the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin needed for the body. Reflecting on the effects the disease had on her body as a dancer, Rylee Arnold said she constantly felt hungry and utterly exhausted. She also said that her readings were far beyond normal levels.

In a first-person feature published this week, she said (via Women's Health),

"My dad took me to the hospital. My sister Brynley was a nurse, so she came out and checked my blood sugar. For reference, a normal count is between 80 to 120. The monitor couldn't read it—it just said 'high.' (If it's above 600, the device won't get an accurate reading.)
"Later, I got my blood drawn, and my blood sugar was 1,023. It was so scary. If I had just gone to bed that night and not to the hospital, I might not be alive today. I was really, really close to a diabetic coma."

Before appearing on television, the 19-year-old, who is a trained dancer in various styles, finished third at the 2014 World Dance Sports Championship in Paris. She was mentored by her elder sister Lindsay Arnold, who is also a professional dancer and choreographer.

Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold have developed a strong bond on the show, and they recently went on a double date with their significant others, Tess McCracken and Walker Lyons.

In the aforementioned article, Arnold also shared that Nedoroscik has been incredibly supportive and noted that whenever her app alerts her about low sugar, he suggests she have some sugar.

She said,

"I have way less stress this season. It's not my first time anymore, and I have a great partner. Every time the app beeps to let me know my blood sugar is low, Stephen’s like, 'Eat sugar.' It’s been so nice to have those people who really care about me and my wellbeing."

Meanwhile, in an interview with People magazine, Stephen Nedoroscik expressed his gratitude to Arnold and thanked her for being an excellent dance teacher.
