Jade Carey had a busy 2024, but she isn't done yet. After her exploits at the Paris Olympics, the American will now be competing on the NCAA collegiate circuit with the OSU Beavers, and she recently expressed her enthusiasm about the same.
Carey first signed with the Beavers in 2017 but deferred competing with the team until after the Tokyo Olympics. The gymnast made her debut for the college in 2022, winning the NCAA Championships uneven bars silver medal that same year. She has since gone on to claim four more medals at the NCAA Championships.
Now, Jade Carey is returning to the OSU team for her fourth year and recently expressed her enthusiasm for the beginning of the collegiate season. Taking to her Instagram stories, she shared a snap of herself posing in the beam in the trademark orange OSU leotard and wrote,
“Beaver nation! One week until your gymbeavs are back.”
Jade Carey on choosing to return to collegiate gymnastics
After her freshman season with Oregon State University in 2022, Jade Carey went on to win an NCAA Championships balance beam silver for the team in 2023. A year later, she claimed runner-up finishes at the nationals in both the all-around and floor exercise events while clinching a bronze on the balance beam.
Now, speaking on her return to OSU, Carey called the team ‘more than a university.’ She said (as quoted by Oregon Live),
“Oregon State is definitely more than a university to me. I really created a family here. The environment is something really special, and something of my wildest dreams. I’ve met so many people, made so many connections, and have seen how much this town cares. It really means a lot to me.”
Carey explained that she was looking forward to having a normal year on the team and in college, saying,
“I just feel like I haven’t had any normal year in college at all. Now that the Olympics are over, I kind of want to take this next year to just enjoy the true college experience. It wasn’t that hard for me to decide, because I love it here, and I love being part of a team.”
She went on to outline her making it to the nationals as a team as one of her biggest goals for the upcoming season.
“I feel like I’ve been able to do so much in college already. I’m definitely proud of everything that I’ve done and we’ve done as a team. I definitely want to make it to nationals as a team. That’s one of my biggest goals.”
For Jade Carey, 2024 has already been a successful year. She made her second consecutive Olympic appearance at the 2024 Games, winning gold alongside Team USA and clinching an individual bronze on the vault.
