Jonathan Owens reacts to insane statistic revealing Simone Biles has the same number of medals as the entirety of the Chinese men's gymnastics team

Simone Biles is the definition of the word dominant, and her husband, Jonathan Owens will be the first to let you know that. Recently, the NFL player proudly shared with fans a statistic comparing his wife and the entirety of the Chinese men's gymnastics team, where both of them have an equal number of Olympic and World Championships medals.

Biles will head into the Paris Olympics as a 30-time World Championships medalist, and a 7-time Olympic medalist. On the other hand, China will be sending their most successful men's gymnastics contingent to these Games, with the five-member team having won the exact same numbers of medals as Biles.

On Instagram a post comparing the American and the Chinese men's gymnastics team read,

“The Chinese are bringing the most decorated men's gymnastics team for this Olympic Games with a combined (5 people) 37 World & Olympic Medals. You know who also has 37 World and Olympic medals? Simone Biles.”

Biles made her World Championships debut in 2013, winning the all-around and floor exercise gold medals the same year. Since then, she has gone on to claim a whopping 30 World Championships medals, 24 of which are gold.

Her most recent outing at the event was in 2023, a decade after her debut. At the 2023 Antwerp World Championships, the American claimed the gold for four events - team, all-around floor exercise, and balance beam. She also claimed a silver on vault.

Meanwhile, Simone Biles made her Olympic debut in 2016, winning the team, all-around, floor exercise, and vault titles in Rio. Four years later, she won a team silver and balance beam bronze in Tokyo, after having struggled with mental health issues during the competition.

On the other end the Chinese five-member team features Liu Yang, Sun Wei, Xiao Routeng, Zhang Boheng, and Zou Jingyuan. Of these Boheng has three World Championships medals, Wei has five World Championships and Olympic medals, Yang and Jingyuan have nine, and Routeng has eleven.

Jonathan Owens is undoubtedly one of Simone Biles' biggest fans, cheering for her in each competition she's been a part of so far in 2024. The Chicago Bears safety has been spotted in the stands of the U.S Core Hydration Classic, US Championships, and the U.S Olympic Trials, exuding excitement each time.

In the stands, Owens has also been seen diligently keeping score of Biles and her routines. In a recent interview with People magazine he revealed he loves being his wife's personal cheerleader and watching her perform, especially as an athlete himself, saying,

“I love watching [it] from an athlete's perspective because that's how you'd be great in any sport, is just being consistent and doing the same thing consistently good every day. You know what I mean? I love to watch it and I love to be out there and be a cheerleader.”

Owens went on to add that everything about the competition is more exciting for himself because he gets to see the work that Biles puts in behind-the-scenes, saying,

“It's super exciting just because I get a chance to see all the work that she puts in prior to, and you know what? Everything she goes through and dealing with the media and everything, and she still goes out there and does it. It's just impressive and goes to her training mindset and consistency.”

After cheering for Simone Biles at domestic competitions, Jonathan Owens will now join her for a few days at the Paris Olympics. The NFL safety has been granted a few days of leave from the Chicago Bears training camp to watch the gymnast live at the marquee event.
