Josh Kerr shared an update about his preparations for the upcoming track season after an incredible run in the Olympic year. The British athlete revealed that he had concluded his track training in Seattle and will be focussing on gearing up for the upcoming indoor season which is just a few months away.
The 27-year-old athlete emerged as one of the top competitors for the Olympic podium in Paris after displaying sheer dominance in the 2024 season right from the Indoor season where he broke the short track 2 mile record at the Millrose Games. He then secured a gold medal in the men's 3000m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
He then marched on to the outdoor season where he defeated arch rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a thrilling contest in the Bowerman Mile. Having competed in both the 800 and 1500m in the 2024 season, Kerr chose to compete in the 1500m at the Paris Olympcis, narrowly missing out on gold. The British athlete was leading the pack in the final moments of the race before Cole Hocker surged ahead to claim the title.
After taking a break post the quadrennial games, Kerr returned to the track to train for the upcoming season. He began his season training in Seattle and took to Instagram to share an update about his plans for the next few weeks as he gears up for the 2025 Indoor Track season. Josh Kerr revealed that he willl be going back to the mountains to train for the remainder of the off-season before returning to the track
"Wrapped up fall training in Seattle, back to the mountains I go. Indoors 🔜," read the caption.
Middle and Long distance runners usually opt for high altitude training in the off-season as it helps them develop and improve their aerobic capacity which plays a crucial role in their performance.
Josh Kerr on feeling exhausted after back to back appearances
Josh Kerr spoke about being exhausted after making back to back appearances in the 2024 season. In a post race interview after losing the top spot to Yared Nuguse at the Zurich Diamond League, Kerr revealed that despite feeling confident, he could not close the gap for a win.
Moreover, he expressed that after a point, competing over the same distance gets boring for him.
"I don't know that was mentally very tiring. I don’t have a week-after-week time trial brain, so these races are kind of boring to me sometimes. You know getting up for it was one thing. I was excited to race, I’m in a good place, training’s been going well. You know if you see the first 1200m, I was in great shape but just couldn't close it down," Kerr said.
Furthermore, he addressed how it is a very tough task to keep on performing at his peak throughout the season.
