Reigning triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas has found a new favorite beyond the world-class tennis on display at the ongoing 2024 US Open. It's Honey Deuce, the signature drink of the US Open, that the Olympic runner has got hooked on.
Thomas attended the ongoing US Open in New York's iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium. She attended the women's final on Saturday, September 7, where Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus captured the title with a 7-5, 7-5 win over the home favorite Jessica Pegula. Thomas was also joined by Noah Lyles, Rai Benjamin, and Suni Lee, all of whom brought glory to America at the recently concluded Paris Olympics.
The 27-year-old Olympic runner shared insights of her US Open on her Instagram handle on Sunday. She posted a fun video in which she could be seen enjoying the iconic Honey Deuce cocktail served at the competition.
"I feel like you're just here for the honey deuces," the video was subtitled.
"And the tennis I promise" Gabby Thomas wrote in the caption.
Honey Deuce is a beverage that is prepared with Grey Goose vodka, raspberry liqueur, and lemonade and is topped with three honeydew melon scoops that resemble tiny tennis balls. The drink was first served at the American tennis event in 2007 and has become a staple refreshment ever since, generating millions of dollars in revenue. At the 2023 event alone, a staggering 450,000 Honey Deuces were served, collecting over $9.9 million in sales.
"Young girls can look up to her as a role model" - Gabby Thomas heaps praise on Coco Gauff
In addition to the 200m gold, Gabby Thomas also assisted the Americans to win the 4x100m and 4x400m relay titles and joined the list of legendary athletic figures. When asked about her source of inspiration during her conversation with fitness content creator Katherine Kalill in December 2023, she responded with Coco Gauff's name.
"She was just named the highest-paid female athlete… she is so relatable and down-to-earth... I also just love that she dominates a white dominated sport as a black woman...She does it with such grace… Young girls can look up to her as a role model and just believe in themselves."
During a conversation with World Athletics, Gabby Thomas revealed that she has become a tennis pro in the Wii Sports game and referred to herself as Coco Gauff of the virtual court.
