Jade Carey had a faulty start to her Olympic campaign at the Bercy Arena after a misstep that saw her fall in the floor exercise. Her mother, Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg, has given an update on how she is fighting through an illness as she looks to make an impact with Team USA.

Carey won a gold medal in the category at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and her fall came as a setback since she was looking to defend her title.

Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles qualified for the individual women’s floor exercise after scooping the first two slots. As per the rules, only the top two gymnasts would make the final.

Overall, Carey finished third behind Biles and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade and will have a chance to showcase her prowess in the individual vault competition.

Thanks to the team effort, Team USA finished top of the table with 172.296 points and will be eligible for the final scheduled for Tuesday. Other nations that made the cut include Brazil, China, Great Britain, Romania, and Japan.

After her stumble, Jade Carey told Olympics.com that she was not feeling well but had to push hard to make an impact at the event.

"I just have not been feeling well the past few days and haven't been able to eat or anything. I had, like, no energy today and didn't really have a sense of what was going on in my head. So, I just kind of wanted people to know that so, they know that there's actually something wrong," she said.

Her mother has shared how the 24-year-old is coping with her illness, noting that she has now started eating and is doing much better.

"I think that is her thing now but she is doing much better today, spoke to her this morning on the same thing. Just trying to hydrate, get some food in and ready to go," she told USA Today.

Jade Carey has expressed gratitude to fans for standing with her after her unfortunate start at the Olympic Games.

Carey disclosed that she had not enjoyed the best days at the Olympics since she was not feeling well, hence the poor performance on the floor exercise.

After her performance, fans were left scratching their heads at what had happened and she came out with a statement to dispel any rumors.

"I haven’t been feeling the best the past few days but I gave it everything I had today. thank you for all the support I have received. I’m so grateful ❤️❤️," Carey tweeted.

However, Jade Carey secured a slot in the individual vault competition. She is now looking forward to shine in the women’s competitions which resume on Tuesday, July 30.
