Lexi Rodriguez recently expressed her gratitude towards fellow Husker Justine Wong-Orantes amid the League One Volleyball debut season. Rodriguez is sharing the volleyball court at the LOVB Omaha with her predecessor in the Huskers Wong-Orantes.
Wong-Orantes represented the Huskers after joining the team as a freshman in 2013. In 2015, she helped the Huskers clinch the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. She earned multiple accolades, including AVCA All-American First Team, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Nebraska Female Athlete of the Year, and Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, to name a few, before ending her collegiate career in 2016.
She joined the national team in 2017 and earned a spot in the 2020 Olympic roster, where the team secured a historic feat by clinching their first-ever gold medal. Four summers later at the Paris Games, she contributed to the squad's efforts to bag a silver medal.
Being in the same team as Wong-Orantes in LOVB, who holds incredible experience, Rodriguez said she feels fortunate to be training alongside this person, who has been supportive throughout her career.
"I mean she has been so supportive of me throughout my whole entire career," Rodriguez said On the Block (42.00 onwards). "She's always been super super supportive and I mean just having her support also has meant the world to me and then now getting to be in the same gym as her just like with Jordan (Larson) I think especially at my position having someone with all the experience and all the wisdom and knowledge behind, just playing the sport in multiple Olympics and at the highest level."
"I mean I couldn't think of anyone else to be in the gym with to kind of learn and grow. So yeah I mean I think it's been so cool and she's been so awesome so I love being in the gym with her," she added.
Lexi Rodriguez expresses joy ahead of her first Pro appearance
Lexi Rodriguez bid adieu to Nebraska Huskers as she turned pro and joined the LOVB Omaha team. Ahead of her debut as a pro player, she shared a make-up video while expressing her excitement.
"Happy game day, aka my first game as a pro," Lexi Rodriguez said. "It definitely does not even feel real, watching the game last night, I was like, holy crap, I'm a pro. It's very crazy to me."
The LOVB Omaha played there on January 10 against LOVB Houston and secured a win with 25-19, 25-20, 28-26.
