Riley Gaines has slammed the current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democrats for their silence on gender issues. The former Kentucky swimmer is a vocal critic of transgender participation in women's sports and has regularly questioned Harris' silence on the issue.
Gaines' criticism of the participation of female transgender athletes in women's sports started in 2022 when the 24-year-old faced Lia Thomas during the NCAA Swimming Championships. The two posted similar times and were tied for fifth place before officials decided to hand over the fifth place to Thomas.
While Gaines did protest the decision, she claimed she was told that they had instructions from the officials to hand the trophy to the transgender swimmer. The 12x All-American didn't swim competitively in the following seasons and has been demanding a ban on transgender participation in women's sports.
As U.S. Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump concluded their live debate on Tuesday evening, Riley Gaines took to X to condemn the Democratic candidate’s silence on the issue of gender ideology. She wrote:
"A deliberate omission tonight on the gender ideology movement. Democrats won't touch it anymore. They know it doesn't poll well for them & they want to hide their voting records. Kamala Harris thinks naked men belong in your daughter's locker room. Pass it on."
Gaines has criticized Harris regularly for both her policies and governance. The 24-year-old is supporting Trump for his second term in the White House,

In April this year, United States President Joe Biden made several changes to Title IX, a civil rights law in the country. The most significant change made in the regulations was that schools could not prohibit transgender students from using bathrooms of their prefered gender, a change which Riley Gaines has been a staunch critic of.
Gaines called the bill ‘anti-woman’ and claimed that it would allow transgender men inside women's toilets. Along with several other female athletes, the 24-year-old sued the Department of Education for making this change.
“We're suing the Biden Administration's Dept of Education. This is how we win. Let's gooooo,” she wrote on X in April.
Gaines continues to distance herself from competitive swimming and has gone full-time in her campaigning efforts. She didn't compete at this year's Olympic Trials for the Paris Olympics either.
