Katie Ledecky shared that she would miss the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics but couldn't miss wearing the Ralph Lauren-designed Team USA uniform. Ledecky will participate in the 400m freestyle event, slated for July 27, 2024, at the Summer Games in Paris.
Ledecky, 27, is the most successful female US swimmer of all time and one of the greatest Olympian with seven gold medals in her wall of fame. The 800m and 1500m freestyle world record holder won 21 World Champion medals over the years, out of which 16 came in individual events.
At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, her 16th gold-winning effort outpaced Michael Phelps' record for most individual golds earned on the World Championships stage. Soon after releasing her book 'Just Add Water', Ledecky swept the 200m, 800m and 1500m freestyle wins at the 2024 US Olympic Swim Trials, confirming her entry to the fourth Olympiad of her career.
With just some hours left for the women's 400m freestyle heats to commence in the Paris waters, Ledecky surfaced wearing the Ralph Lauren-designed Team USA opening ceremony uniform in her Instagram story.
However, her caption asserted that she won't be present in the opening ceremony but couldn't help wearing the uniform.
"Not going to Opening Ceremony but had to get dressed up."
In the photo, Ledecky leaned against the railing, beaming with happiness having worn the blazer with Team USA logo emblazoned on top left.
Ledecky will head into the main event as the top seed in the 800m and 1500m freestyle events but will face Ariarne Titmus, a formidable competitor and world record holder, in the highly anticipated 400m freestyle heats on July 27, 2024.
