At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, the American led the lineup with an impressive time of 3:58.15. She was followed by McIntosh, who recorded 3:59.39. In the same year, at the FINA Swimming World Cup in Toronto, Canada, McIntosh equaled the score by securing the victory in the event after posting 3:52.80. Ledecky bagged the second place with 3:52.88.
Further, at the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, the American earned the victory by narrowly outperforming the Canadian youngster. While Ledecky registered 3:59.71, McIntosh clocked 3:59.79.
At the 2023 WAC in Fukuoka, Japan, a year later, Ledecky again surpassed McIntosh by clocking 3:58.73 to stand in second place. The Canadian had to settle in fourth place with a time of 3:59.94. McIntosh did her utmost to defeat Ledecky at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships. She succeded in exceeding the American beloved swimmer by a substantial lead, posting 3:59.42, while Ledecky finished in second place with 4:02.38.

Apart from the 400m freestyle, Katie Ledecky will also compete in the women's 800m and 1500m freestyle events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ledecky currently holds the world records in the two events. She posted 8:04.79 at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 15:20.48 at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim to register the world record in the 800m and 1500m freestyle events, respectively.
She will compete in the 800m freestyle to clinch her fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal by locking horns with Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ariarne Titmus, and the 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist Paige Madden.
The 27-year-old will vie against fellow teammate Katie Grimes to defend her 1500m freestyle title. They will be joined by Australia's Lani Pallister and Moesha Johnson.
