The Absa Kip Keino Classic 2024 is scheduled to be held on April 20, Saturday. The event was inaugurated in 2020 as a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour and will be held at the Nyanao National Sports Stadium in Nairobi.
The tournament was named after Kenya's legendary athlete Kipchchoge Keino and ever since its establishment has been a prominent international track and field event besides the Wanda Diamond League.
The major aim of the tournament is to provide an international platform to the young and aspiring track and field athletes of Africa. The tournament consists of various events such as the 100m sprint, Hammer Throw, 400m Hurdles, etc.
Through participation in the tournament, all the athletes get a chance to win handsome prize money as well as ranking points. In the fifth edition of the tournament in 2024, Kenyan company Safaricom announced a huge KES 2 million sponsorship besides the prize money of KES 250,000 for each event.
Over the years numerous high-profile athletes such as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Sha'Carri Richardson have graced the tournament.
