Legendary athlete Carl Lewis' prodigy, Louie Hinchliffe clinches NCAA 100m title at the National Championships with a sub-10 race

Louie Hinchliffe made headlines after gaining victory with a sub-10 mark in the 100m dash at the NCAA Track & Field National Championships 2024. Carl Lewis's tutee claimed the national championship title on June 7 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Hinchliffe recently dominated at the NCAA West Preliminary Round by running the fastest 100m of the year in a time of 9.84s. He trounced the defending champion, Shayn Maswabganyi, who secured the second position with a time of 9.89s. The Houston Cougar's athlete, Hinchliffe, recorded a time of 10.23s in the 100m discipline at his first collegiate outdoor meet.

Louie Hinchliffe continued his success at the NCAA Track & Field Championships 2024, he nabbed the National Champion title after clocking 9.95s in the 100m discipline. Favour Ashe secured the second position after clocking a time of 9.99s, and Kanyinsola Ajayi stood in third place with a time of 10.01s.

Louie Hinchliffe dominated at the MAC St. Relays Elite in the 100m event after clocking a 10.22s. He is trained by the renowned track and field athlete and Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis.

Carl Lewis reacted to Louie Hinchliffe's triumph at the NCAA Track & Field Championships 2024 in the post-race interview with Citius Mag. He revealed the story of Hinchliffe's transfer to the Houston Cougars and shared his opinions on the race, calling him a "great kid".

"It was outstanding. Louie has had an incredible year and the thing about it is that he reached out to me to transfer and said I want to come to Houston," said Lewis. "He understood what we're trying to do and he just bought into the program right away. He's a great kid and he's going to do very well." (0:05-0:25)

The coach also revealed how he is preparing the athlete for the upcoming Olympic Games.

"He's got to go to the Olympic trials, which is the 29th of the month, and I'll go with him to go there, and then what we'll do is we'll take off a few days and then we'll get back into training, slow things down to prepare for that, and that's only a one-day meet it's great." (2:25-2:50)

He added,

"He's the kind of guy that can handle it. He's a tremendous young man, smart great teammate and he's going to do very well and I expect him right there in the finals." (2:58-3:05)

The Olympic Trials are scheduled to be held on June 21-30, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
