Leon Marchand has gained over 800,000 new followers on Instagram following his dominant wins at the Paris Olympics. He made history in this year's summer games by setting four Olympic records across his four wins.
The French swimmer entered the 2024 Paris Olympics without any gold medals but now has four. Before these wins, he had approximately 200,000 followers on his Instagram. However, his follower count has now surged to 1.1M followers, marking a more than 5x increase.
Marchand's most recent win at Paris was in the men's 200m IM, where he attained the second-fastest swim by clocking 1:54.06 and broke Michael Phelps' Olympic record. He is now just behind Ryan Lochte whose time is 1:54.00.
Early in the 2024 Olympics, Marchand won gold in the men's 400m IM, setting an Olympic record with a time of 4:02.95. He also secured another gold in the men's 200m butterfly, where he clocked an Olympic record of 1:51.21, defeating the defending champion, Kristof Milak.
His fourth gold came in the 200m breaststroke, where he once again set an Olympic record by clocking 2:05.85.

Leon Marchand competed in the second Olympic Games of his career in Paris. However, the 2020 Tokyo Games were medalless for the 22-year-old.
Marchand made an incredible comeback in Paris with his triumphs and recently opened up about nabbing his first gold in the 400m IM in an interview. He shared that he had 'goosebumps' while clinching his first gold medal.
"I had goosebumps, I felt really proud to be myself and to also be French tonight. It was an amazing time for me. I was really living in the moment," Marchand said (per Olympics.com).
Leon Marchand has now etched his name in the history books as the first swimmer to bag two individual Olympic gold medals in a single session. With his impressive wins, he became the first French swimmer to nab three Olympic victories.
