Letsile Tebogo had an incredible season in 2024, winning the 200m gold at the Paris Olympics. Now, the Botswanian is showing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season by giving hints of his return to training.

Tebogo’ season began on a high as the sprinter went unbeaten in the first three meets of the season, winning the Curro Podium Final, ASA Athletics Grand Prix 2, as well as the ASA Athletics Grand Prix 3. Although typically a 100 and 200m sprinter, the 21-year-old then went on to run the 4x400m at the World Athletics Relay, helping Botswana qualify for the Olympics in the event.

After a few more impressive performances on international ground, Letsile Tebogo entered the Paris Olympics, first competing in the 100m. In this distance, he made it to the finals but was unable to win a medal, finishing sixth.

The sprinter then moved on to the 200m races, where he beat American gold-medal favorite Noah Lyles twice, once in the semifinals and once in the finals, to be crowned Olympic champion. He concluded his campaign in Paris by helping Botswana to a 4x400m relay silver.

Letsile Tebogo took his X account as he hinted at the preparations for the upcoming season, writing on X,

“Need to get back in the oval.”

Letsile Tebogo’s most dominant event is undoubtedly the 200m sprint. After winning the Olympic gold over the distance, he went unbeaten in the event for four races, winning the Lausanne Diamond League, the Silesia Diamond League, the Zurich Diamond League, as well as the Grand Prix Lombardia.

However, the Botswanian has also shown promise in the 400m. Outside of helping his country to a silver in the event, the youngster holds a personal best of 44.29s in the event, set at the ASA Athletics Grand Prix 2 in March earlier this year.

While he previously hinted at competing in the distance more regularly, he has now confirmed his plans for the same. Recently, American 100/200m sprinter Fred Kerley stated that he would be returning to the 400m, warning compatriot and Olympic champion Vernon Norwood on X,

“Vernon Norwood you got lucky this year, see you next year.”

To this Norwood asked,

“Letsile Tebogo will we see you too?”

Tebego proceeded to confirm his intentions of racing the 400m, writing,

“Yes sir.”

For his outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, Tebogo was recently awarded Best Male Athlete of Paris by the Association of National Olympic Committees. He has also been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year award.
