200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo has backed Mondo Duplantis to defeat Karsten Warholm in their 100m showdown in Zurich. The event is scheduled to take place at 9:30 pm CEST on September 4, 2024.
Pole vault world record holder from Sweden, Duplantis, and 400m hurdles world record holder from Norway, Warholm, will lock horns in Zurich, and their 100m event has attracted a lot of attention.
Recently, Letsile Tebogo was asked to give his thoughts on the race between the two Scandinavian stars while talking to the media ahead of the Zurich Diamond League. The 21-year-old picked Duplantis as his winner and explained that the Swede would benefit from his quick build-up before the pole vault, something that was not present in the 400m starts.
"With the little experience that I have got, it's that the 400m has not a perfect start. Even me, when I switch up from the 400 to the 100, it becomes a little bit sticky from the blocks. But with Mondo, with that speed from the build-up, going into the pole vault, I'd say he would win the race," Tebogo said.
Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm will both enter their 100m race in Zurich on the back of victorious performances at the Silesia Diamond League in Chorzow, Poland. Duplantis bettered his own pole vault world record once again, as he cleared 6.26m, which was 0.3m more than second-placed Sam Kendricks.
Karsten Warholm competed in the 400m hurdles and set a new meet record of 46.95m to win the event. France's Clement Ducos and Qatar's Abderrahman Samba came second and third, respectively.
