Nebraska Huskers senior Lexi Rodriguez alongside three of her teammates received All-American honors, tying the Pittsburgh Pirates for the most from any team. The Huskers women's volleyball team came fresh off a loss against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Final Four. The honor meant Rodriguez joined Sarah Pavan and Kadie Rolfzen as the only four-time All-Americans.
The Huskers recorded a 3-0 sweep over the Wisconsin Badgers and advanced to the semi-finals on December 16, 2024, following their victory over Dayton on December 13. Middle blocker Andi Jackson and outside hitter Harper Murray posted 10 kills each, while Taylor Landfair led the game with 13 kills.
Lexi Rodriguez and her team advanced to the Final Four for the 12th time under coach John Cook's rule and the seventh consecutive time. The team faced No. 2 Penn State in the Final Four round but failed to make it to the finals, leaving the arena after a 33-3 season.
Despite the loss, four Nebraska Huskers members were named All-Americans for their impressive season. Led by senior and Libero Lexi Rodriguez, the honorees included middle blocker Andi Jackson, setter Bergen Reilly, and outside hitter Harper Murray.
She also joined the finalists of AVCA Player of the Year, the results of which will be announced on December 21. Meanwhile, Reilly and Murray received their second All-American honors, whereas Andi Jackson debuted on the roster.
Lexi Rodriguez broke down after her Final Four loss against Penn State, expressed gratitude to teammates and coaches
After the Final Four disappointment, Lexi Rodriguez broke down in tears during the post-match conference. The 21-year-old expressed gratitude to her teammates and coaches for the exceptional program as she bid goodbye to her collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
"All the people, all my teammates, and all the coaches. Just everyone, every single person part of this program. Just truly amazing people and they just really changed my life and they just believed in me every single person, every single day from the moment I stepped on campus and you can't find that anywhere, you truly can't. I'm just so grateful for everyone and I'll say it for my entire life that this program was the best thing that ever happened to me," she said.
Andi Jackson, the middle blocker who put up promising performances this season, lauded Rodriguez and senior Merritt Beason for representing the program so well.
"The seniors are truly the most empowered selfless women that I have ever met and they are the epitome of volleyball and they hold themselves so well and they represent our program so well. It has just been such an honor to play by their side and be their teammate and I am so proud to get to call myself Merritt and Lexi's teammate," Jackson said. (at 5:54)
