The skiing world is abuzz with excitement about Lindsey Vonn's possible return to the world of skiing. She is a three-time Olympic medalist, including a gold and two bronze medals.
Vonn has been a four-time Olympian, having competed in the 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2018 Winter Games. Starting her skiing journey at the tender age of three, she carved her way to the international circuit as a nine-year-old. She competed in her first Olympic Games as a 17-year-old.
Throughout her illustrious career, Vonn has grappled with multiple injuries, including the most severe one in November 2018. It forced her to hang up her skis in 2019. She injured her knee while training at Copper Mountain in Colorado after announcing her retirement at the 2019 World Championship in Sweden where the American skier collected a bronze medal in the women's downhill.
In an exciting development, a recent press release stated that Vonn will compete during the season opener for the 2024-25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. With the introduction of the new rule that permits retired athletes, who have won a World Cup Overall Globe, an Event Globe, an Olympic gold medal, or a World Championship gold medal to race again, talks of Vonn's return are growing.
Along with Lindsey Vonn, retired skiers, including Marcel Hirscher, Frenchman Alexis Pinturault, and Lara Gut-Behrami are also poised to return to the 2024-25 season opener race.
