Lindsey Vonn recently expressed her concern over fellow skier Mikaela Shiffrin's safety following the latter's devastating fall in her giant slalom World Cup race. Shiffrin suffered a nasty fall during this weekend’s Stifel Killington Cup in Vermont.

After earning the lead in the first run, the 29-year-old tripped during her second attempt. Shiffrin appeared to lose her balance and slip as she took a sharp turn near the finish line. She went down, sliding sideways and hitting one gate before rushing into another, and collided with the safety net at the hill's edge. The American stayed down for a few minutes as the safety crew quickly reached her, and was transported off the slope on a sled.

Following the crash, Vonn, who recently made her return to the slopes after having last competed in 2019, voiced her worry for Shiffrin.

"Hope @MikaelaShiffrin is ok 🙏🏻🙏🏻," wrote Vonn.

After the nasty fall in the giant slalom, Shiffrin's quest for a 100th World Cup victory is extended. The three-time Olympic medalist will also miss Sunday's slalom in Killington, Vermont. Her next attempt at bagging her 100th World Cup victory will be at Beaver Creek, Colorado.

After having last competed in the professional skiing circuit in 2019, Lindsey Vonn made her return to the sport on Thursday, November 14, 2024, during the ongoing 2024-25 Alpine Skiing World Cup season.

After having suffered multiple injuries, the American skier decided to stay dormant from the circuit until this year following a knee replacement surgery. In the wake of her comeback, Vonn shared a heartwarming video, reflecting on her skiing career so far.

She commenced her journey as a three-year-old, accompanying her father and grandfather on the slopes, and competed in her first international competition, at the World Junior Championships and World Cup at the age of nine.Sharing the video, she highlighted the shift in her approach towards the sport:

"It started with a dream as a 9 year old girl," Vonn wrote. "It was about pushing myself to become the best I could be, for me. Now, it’s about something bigger. What drives me and keeps me going is something bigger than just myself."

She added:

"Through the @Lindseyvonnfoundation, my mission is to help the next generation of girls chase their dreams too."

So far, Vonn has collected three Olympic medals throughout her career.
