Lindsey Vonn was recently seen being emotional after meeting her young fans at the FIS Fall Festival. The skier made her first competitive skiing appearance since overturning her 2019 retirement.
Vonn announced her return to action this November and then made her official comeback at the FIS Fall Festival, where she competed on December 7 and 8, 2024, on her home ground. The 40-year-old competed in the downhill and super-G and finished 24th and 27th in a field of 40 racers in the former one and attained the 24th and 19th positions in the latter event.
The American skier has attained several wins and titles and was one of the most successful alpine skiers before her retirement in 2019. Vonn left the sport because of suffering from several injuries, and in 2019, she sustained serious knee injuries, for which she had to undergo surgeries. Having recovered completely from a knee replacement recently, she decided to make a comeback in the sport.
Lindsey Vonn shared a special moment from her time at her first official competition after retirement on her Instagram stories. She shared a video of giving autographs to a bunch of kids present at the competition, and she was left emotional with the situation as she wrote:

Lindsey Vonn opened up about qualifying for the World Cup
Lindsey Vonn recently announced her qualification for the World Cup after performing at her official first competition after retirement. She took to her Instagram account and shared a series of pictures that showcased her time at the FIS Fall Festival at Copper Mountain, Colorado. It carried some photos of her skiing on the slope, videos of meeting her fans, and also an adorable image of her pet.
She added a caption where she announced her qualification for the World Cup and penned a heartfelt note, talking about her experience of her first official competition after her comeback.
"Well… I have officially qualified for the World Cup!! The races this weekend were so much fun and a great training opportunity. Still have some work to do but this is a great step in my progression," wrote Lindsey Vonn.
She added:
"Being in the start with my teammates it felt like I had never stopped racing…but at the same time I have to keep everything in perspective. I had a partial knee replacement only a few months ago, I have not trained or raced in almost 6 years and have only a few days of training. Step by step I’m getting stronger and finding my form."
