The 2025 Australian Open, one of the sport's most prestigious Grand Slam tournaments, is currently being organized in Melbourne.

Sinner and Vonn have known each other for several years, with their connection rooted in their shared background in skiing. They first met at the 2021 US Open, and their bond deepened in 2022 when they spent time together skiing in Italy.

In 2024, the Olympic skiing champion reflected on her friend's journey and his athleticism.

In February 2024, the Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn shared insights into her connection with Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner. Having grown up as a competitive skier before focusing on tennis, Sinner shares a strong bond with Vonn.

In an interview with ATPTour.com, she explained that their connection began due to their shared background in skiing. She described the tennis player as humble, kind, and thoughtful, adding that his perspective on sports likely stems from his foundation in skiing. Vonn also compared Sinner's approach to that of Roger Federer, a former World no.1, and another friend of hers. She said:

“He's just a great athlete, very smart and I'm not surprised that he won Australia. I thought he would win before he did, but he's someone that's going to be around for a long time. And he really reminds me of Roger, to be honest.”

She also expressed admiration for the 23-year-old's fearlessness on the court, attributing it partly to his skiing background. In the interview, she further described tennis as offering the same adrenaline as skiing but without the heightened physical risk.
