On her return to the slopes, Lindsey Vonn recently opened up skiing along with the 2018 Pyeongchang podium finisher Sofia Goggia. On November 14, 2024, Vonn announced her return to the sport in the wake of the 2024-25 Alpine Skiing World Cup season.
She competed in the World Cup event on December 21 and 22, 2024, in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Vonn finished 14th in a super-G on Saturday. She competed alongside a few elite skiers, including Cornelia Hutter, Lara Gut-Behrami, Elena Curtoni, and Goggia, who crossed the finish line in third place in women's super-G.
Having previously shared the podium with Goggia, Vonn opened up on competing with the Italian skier again, hoping to conclude a race together on the podium.
"I love Sofie and I am so happy to be skiing on up her again," Vonn said in a post-race interview. "I hope I can be back on the podium with her once."
At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Goggia clinched a gold medal in the Downhill event and was followed by Vonn in third place.
"This was the perfect start" - Lindsey Vonn weighs in on her super-G in St.Moritz amid her return to the sport
Lindsey Vonn opened up about her super-G race in St. Moritz during her return to the slopes.
Having last competed in 2019, Vonn hung up her skis after navigating a series of injuries. She made her return to the sport only after undergoing knee replacement surgery in April 2024, while keeping her sights focused on the comeback and competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics to be held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Reflecting on her recent performance, she expressed her satisfaction while showing preparedness for the next race.
"This was the perfect start," Vonn said. "Today is just the first step, and I'm not looking for more. Today I really needed to get to the finish. I wanted to have a solid result. And that's exactly what I did." (via. ESPN)
"I didn't risk anything with the line. I was a little bit conservative in some sections, but overall I skied really well. Now I just need my top section to be a little faster and I'll be in really good shape."
Vonn will be seen competing in her next race in St. Moritz on Sunday.
