American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn reacted to a fan's post supporting her during the super-g race at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen World cup leg. The Minnesota native finished 13th in the race on Sunday after clocking a run time of 1:16.31s as Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami clinched the podium finish after clocking 1:14.91s.
Vonn competed in two official races during the FIS World Cup event at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, one downhill and a super-g event. In the downhill event, she couldn't complete the race and was eventually won by Federica Brignone.
One of Vonn's fans was present on the sidelines to support her and shared a video of her from the super-g race in her story. The 41-year-old shared the story on her Instagram handle and also thanked the fan for supporting her. She wrote:
"Thank you for cheering"
This was Vonn's fourth World Cup super-g race after her comeback to skiing. Her best result in these events was her fourth-position finish in the St. Anton event.
Lindsey Vonn shares her thoughts after competing in the Super-G race on Sunday in Germany
Lindsey Vonn recently shared her thoughts after competing in the super-g race on Sunday (Jan. 26).
In an interview after the race, Vonn said she was quite happy to compete in the event without the risk factor. Additionally, she also mentioned that these races help her gain confidence for the upcoming FIS Ski World Championships scheduled to be held in Saalback from February 4-16. She said (via The Desert Review):
"For me, it was really good to ride without taking too many risks. I wanted to stay healthy and nothing more. It gives me more confidence for the world championships. The goal wasn't to be here this season at all -- of course the only thing that matters are medals at the world championships. Saalbach is a pretty easy course, so it should suit me pretty well, if I can get some fast skis I should be in good shape."
Lindsey Vonn has an impressive record at the FIS Ski Championships over the years. She won two gold medals in super-g and downhill races at the 2009 edition of the event in France. Additionally, she also has three silver and bronze medals to boast of in this competition.
