American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn recently reacted to the support she received from her fellow athletes. This comes just a day after Vonn competed in her first FIS Ski World Cup event in her comeback from retirement after knee surgery earlier this year.
On Saturday (Dec 21), Vonn competed in a Super-G race, her third this season. She finished 14th in the event after clocking a run time of 1:16.36 as Cornelia Hutter secured the top-podium finish with 1:15.18.
Following the race, Vonn expressed her happiness about coming back to a World Cup after six years and also thanked her team and her family. Her last World Cup race was in 2019 in Italy.
Several co-athletes such as Novak Djokovic, Allyson Felix, Michael Phelps, and Billie Jean King chipped in with their comments as they showed their support for the 40-year-old.
"Let's go Lindsey," Djokovic wrote.
"Proud of you," King wrote.
"Love it!!! Congrats friend," Phelps wrote.
Felix wrote:
"Welcome back."
Lindsey Vonn reacted to these comments with a couple of emojis and shared this on her Instagram stories.
In her Instagram post, Vonn mentioned that she will compete in Austria next year where she will participate in the downhill and super-g events. This event is scheduled to be held between Jan 11-12.
Lindsey Vonn shares her thoughts after first World Cup race in six years
Lindsey Vonn expressed her thoughts regarding the 14th-position finish in the downhill event in St. Moritz.
In an interview with Eurosport, Vonn stated that she has much more to give to the skiing circuit. She also mentioned that she is excited to feel the nerves of the race after so much support.
Vonn said:
"I felt really good, there's definitely a lot I have left to give. I really wanted to get to the finish today and be solid. I didn't want to risk too much, today was not the day to do anything special. It was nice to feel the nerves again and to be in the start again but tomorrow will be better because now I'm used to it."
During the interview, Lindsey Vonn also stated that she is looking forward to improving through every race and building on her performance in the coming events.
