After returning to the competitive circuit in the 2024-25 season, Lindsey Vonn expressed her admiration for the American women's skiing team. After navigating a series of injuries that forced her to hang up her skis, Vonn announced her return to the slopes on Thursday, November 14, 2024, ahead of the commencement of the 2024-25 Alpine Skiing World Cup season.
While she left the sport in 2019 after enduring a string of injuries, she made a comeback only after having undergone a right knee replacement in April of this year. Vonn recently participated as a forerunner at the season's first women's downhill on Beaver Creek's legendary Birds of Prey course on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Following this development, she shared a picture of the American women's ski team, including Lauren Macuga, Haley Cutler, Isabella Wright, Olympian Keely Cashman, Breezy Johnson, and Jacqueline Wiles. Sharing the team picture, Vonn expressed her admiration and pride in the team and wrote:
"Proud of you ladies!! Love the energy you all bring to racing."
Her hand-recorded time of 1:34.1 at Beaver Creek showed that the 40-year-old would have been placed inside the top 20 skiers of the race. Vonn competed in two Super Giant races at Copper Mountain in Colorado, finishing 24th and 19th, respectively, out of 45 skiers, on December 7, 2024.
"Incredible feeling to cross the finish line" - Lindsey Vonn reflects on her Beaver Creek run
Lindsey Vonn expressed her gratitude and excitement after completing a race at Beaver Creek as a forerunner. She reflected on the exhilarating moment of crossing the finish line, especially with the support of an enthusiastic crowd, including her fans, friends, and family.
"THANK YOU Beaver Creek," she wrote. "What an incredible feeling to cross the finish line in front of such an amazing crowd! Friends, family, volunteers and so many people I’ve known over the years who came to support and cheer for me and the whole @usskiteam… thank you 🙏🏻"
Vonn added:
"If you couldn’t tell by my smile… I had SO much fun! The next step in this journey is complete and now it’s time to take this titanium knee to the next level and into a race. 💪🏻 I’ll see you next weekend."
Vonn will be seen competing at the next World Cup race in St Moritz, slated from December 21-22, 2024.
