Lindsey Vonn is making a comeback to competitive skiing five years after her retirement, and she's putting in the work. Most recently, the American shared a snap from an early morning training session, showing off a beautiful sunrise on the slopes.
Vonn is already one of the most successful skiers of all-time. The American marked herself as one to watch out for from a very young age, making her Olympic debut at the 2002 Winter Games, aged just 17. Five years later, she won her first major medals after she clinched silver in both the downhill and super-G events at the 2007 World Championships in Åre, Sweden.
Vonn went on to win six more World Championships medals, including two golds. The American also put up incredible performances on the FIS World Cup circuit, claiming 82 World Cup race wins, 137 podium finishes, 16 discipline titles, and four overall titles.
Now, as she prepares to return to the slopes five years after calling time on her career, the 40-year-old is working hard in training. Vonn recently took to her Instagram story to share a snap of a beautiful sunrise from an early morning session on the slopes, writing,
“Why I wake up early.”
Lindsey Vonn set to compete at FIS Fall Festival
Having announced her skiing comeback last month, Lindsey Vonn will be making her first competitive outing on the slopes on December 7 and 8, as reported by The Associated Press. The American is set to compete at the FIS Fall Festival that is scheduled to take place at Copper Mountain, Colorado.
On Saturday and Sunday, Vonn will be racing the downhill and super-G events. Talking to AP, U.S. Ski Team head coach Paul Kristofic said,
“Obviously her history speaks for itself and she’s definitely the most decorated speed skier out there and has done amazing things throughout her career. So it will be really, really fun and interesting to see what she can do.”
“It’s getting better every time she goes out on the hill. It’s been a lot of work to catch up after five years away. But she’s motivated and pushing hard and I think really enjoying it, too,” he added.
The last time Vonn raced in an official FIS event was in February, 2019. She raced the women's downhill at the World Championships in Are, Sweden, finishing with a bronze medal. Now, the American is set to return to the slopes in a handful of days, and fans will be curious to see how she fares upon her comeback.
