Lindsey Vonn underwent an intense training session in the gym as she looks to secure her first podium after making the comeback last month. The three-time Olympic medalist suffered a disappointing finish last weekend in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Vonn finished 20th in the downhill race before crashing in the Super-G event the following day. While she returned unhurt from Italy, the 40-year-old was disappointed over the results and wrote:
"Shit happens…. On to the next race 👉"
Vonn has indeed moved on and underwent an intense training session in the gym on Monday, January 20. The Olympic champion flaunted her toned physique in a selfie on her Instagram story and was spotted doing hanging core exercises.
Notably, Vonn struggled with her balance during the Super-G race in Cortina after her skis stuck together and she fell on her left side.
"I definitely made some mistakes on the top, but I got a little bit behind the course and tried to pull it off. Then my skis kind of clicked together and I lost my balance," Lindsey Vonn told reporters afterward
The 40-year-old had earlier earned sixth and fourth-place finishes in St. Anton, Austria, and was on pace for a podium finish during Sunday's Super-G race before losing her balance on the final section. She will now be in action next weekend at Garmisch-Partnerkirchen, Germany.
Lindsey Vonn is looking up to Simone Biles and Serena Williams as she aims to become the oldest skier to win a World Cup race
No skier older than 34 has ever won a World Cup race in history, and Lindsey Vonn is looking up to some big names in the sport as she looks to break that record. The 40-year-old is taking inspiration from the likes of Simone Biles and Serena Williams, both of whom have broken the age barriers in their sport with Biles becoming the oldest gymnast in 75 years to win the all-around Olympic title last year.
"I'm not the first person to do it; I'm just maybe the first woman to do it in ski racing. Simone Biles is the perfect example of what can be done at an older age — and she's not even old," Vonn said in an interview with cbc.ca
“Tom [Brady], Lewis [Hamilton], Serena [Williams]. They’ve all done it," she told Associated Press in an interview last weekend
To add to Vonn's motivation, Biles and Hamilton are still competing, with the latter starting off on a new journey with Scuderia Ferrari this year at 40. Even if Vonn only makes the podium, she would be the oldest to do it both among male and female skiers.
