Seventh grader Bo Bassett recently shared his excitement while navigating through the recruitment process in wrestling. With the commitment to finding the best fit for his future, Bassett is embracing this significant moment in his wrestling journey.
Having won the 2021 Cadet Freestyle World Championships in Budapest and fresh off his bronze medal victory in the 65kg weight category at the 2024 U20 World Wrestling Championships, Bassett is offering a promising prospect to the recruiters.
Recently, the University of Michigan visited the Bishop McCort Catholic seventh grader in Pennsylvania. Bassett was seen taking pictures with the University of Michigan's coach Sean Bormet, who has been associated with the institution since 2018 and led the team to its first Big Ten championship since 1973.
Bassett took to social media to give an update regarding the visit from Michigan wrestling, stating he is taking time and looking at every option without any rush. He conveyed that he is carefully considering his future opportunities in wrestling while enjoying and exploring different programs. He also highlighted the upcoming WNO (Wrestling Night Out) Week. He wrote:
"I love wrestling: Michigan Weekend was amazing," Bassett wrote. "Taking my time, looking at every option, and enjoying this recruiting process. Go Blue!!〽️ #Uncommitted."
"WNO Week! See you guys Sunday!!!"
"I am going to enjoy it and have fun with it" - Bo Bassett has a different approach toward the recruitment process as opposed to fellow wrestlers
Bo Bassett recently won the bronze medal after an intense bout against Georgia's Nikoloz Beshidze, earning a 10-0 victory within 2:19 at the 2024 U20 World Wrestling Championships in Spain.
According to MSN.com, as the recruitment process unfolds, Bassett stated that he recognized the unique opportunity he would go through only once, intending to make the most of it. While some wrestlers find the process stressful and challenging, Bassett is embracing it.
"Some wrestlers don’t like this process, but I can honestly say I am really enjoying it," Bassett said. "My view is, I only get to do the recruiting process once, so I am going to enjoy it and have fun with it"
He added:
"I sometimes like to do things different and hope everyone likes these updates. When I was in elementary school, I would have done anything to follow along with Spencer Lee, Jason Nolf or Zain Retherford's recruiting process.”
Bassett has already ruled out Stanford, leaving 18 recruiters seeking his commitment.
