Masai Russell recently revealed that she has a bigger goal in mind despite her Paris Olympics win in the 100m hurdles. The American athlete is currently gearing up for her 2025 season.
Russell delivered stellar performances in 2024, and one of the best among them was the Paris Olympics. Here, she competed in the 100m hurdles and clocked 12.33s to clinch the very first Olympic gold medal of her career. She defeated France's Cyrena Samba-Mayela and Jasime Camacho-Quinn, who secured second and third place, respectively.
The athlete is currently in her off-season and is training for the 2025 track season. Amid this, she shared a Q&A session on her Instagram story, where she was asked by one of her followers whether she wanted to achieve anything bigger than the Olympic gold medal. Answering this, the 24-year-old shared a mirror selfie in her story wearing her USA track kit and wrote:
"The world record."
Russell concluded her 2024 season by competing at the Athlos NYC meet, where she attained a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles event by recording 12.44s. She is now all set to commence her 2025 season by competing at the Millrose Games.
Masai Russell opened up about her mindset of competing in the Millrose Games
Masai Russell recently appeared in Citius Mag's podcast, where she revealed her mindset about the early-season victories. Her first competition of the season will be the Millrose Games, where she revealed that she will be focusing on the technical mistakes and then improving them ahead of the commencement of the Championships cycle.
"I think I am a very secure person in my abilities. So although it may not look flawless in April, like best believe when we get to USA, it's going to be perfected. So, I'm okay with taking the hits and maybe not winning earlier in the season to work on those smaller things to make sure that they are fixed going into the Championship cycle," said Masai Russell. In the same podcast, she also spoke about why she couldn't compete in the Millrose Games in 2024.
"Last year I wasn't able to be a part of Millrose Games because it was my first year on the professional circuit. It was the week before USAs, so I didn't want to do too much traveling." (8:08)
After the Millrose Games, Masai Russell will also be competing in the US Championships, which is slated for July 31, 2025, and following this, she will be seen competing at the World Championships in Tokyo, which will begin on September 13.
