American Hurdler Masai Russell revealed her favorite city to compete in. This comes just a month after she concluded her successful 2024 track and field season.
The season was notably a breakthrough year for Russell, in which she competed in meets across various parts of the world. She won numerous podium finishes in these events and eventually finished as World No. 2 in the World Athletics rankings. Amid this stacked-up 2024 season, there was one city in which she enjoyed running the most.
In a recent Q&A session on her Instagram handle, Masai Russell was asked about her favourite country to play in by one of her Instagram followers. The Washington DC native shared a mirror selfie and replied 'Paris.'
Russell did have a good time competing at the French capital this year. She won the 100m Hurdles Olympic gold after beating the defending champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Cyrena Samba-Mayela.
Besides her final race, Russell also dominated the preliminary stages of the event, securing first and second positions in the heats and semis of the event, respectively. Owing to this special achievement in the city, the US 100m hurdler seemingly holds a special affection towards it.
Masai Russell comments on the pressure of US Olympics Track and Field trials
Masai Russell recently opened up about the pressure that revolves around the US Olympic Track and Field trials.
Russell revealed that she was more stressed during the Olympic trials compared to the quadrennial event. She also mentioned the major reason behind this was the Olympic qualification that was on the line during the trials.
She said (via World Athletics):
"I was way more stressed making the team in the trials than actually being on the line in the Olympic final. There’s no Olympics if you don’t get through the US trials. And the US trials is like the Olympics within itself."
During the 100m hurdles finals of the 2024 trials, Russell produced an impressive performance. She clocked a personal-best run time of 12.25 seconds to win the event. This was an improved performance compared to her outing at the 2021 trials for the Tokyo Olympics.
Masai Russell competed in two events: 400m and 100m hurdles during the 2021 trials. However, she failed to make it to the finals of both these events after crashing out of the heats and semis in the 100m and 400 events, respectively.
