Masai Russell opens up about the best and worst part of being a pro track athlete

Masai Russell recently made her feelings known about being a pro track athlete by stating the best and worst parts of pursuing it as her career. The athlete ended her successful 2024 season by competing at the Athlos NYC meet.

Russell is currently preparing for the 2025 season. She frequently shares updates about her training and workout sessions. Amid this, she did a Q&A session with her fans on her Instagram story, where she was asked several questions about her career. One of them was about the best and worst parts of being a pro track athlete.

Answering the fan, the American said that the best part is she gets to be independent and mentioned the worst part is traveling and competing by oneself when an athlete is not in a big pro group.

"Best is the independence and freedom. Worst if you're not in a big pro group (which I'm not) would be going to meets, traveling, and competing at some meets by yourself," wrote Masai Russell.

The 24-year-old became an Olympic champion in the 100m hurdles event at the Paris Olympics. She clocked 12.33s to stand atop the podium and bested Cyrena Samba-Mayela and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who claimed second and third places, respectively.

Apart from her achievements on the track, Masai Russell also accomplished on social media. She manifested that she would gain half a million followers on Instagram in 2024, and as soon as she entered 2025, her wish finally came true as she gained 500K followers on January 1. After this achievement, Russell showcased her excitement about the win by expressing her emotions on her Instagram story.

She shared a screenshot of her profile and opened up about achieving her manifestation. Along with this, she also extended gratitude toward her followers for their support.

"It's crazy how I had 500k on my vision board for all of 2024, and on the first day of 2025, it came true. I'm here to tell you that whatever you manifest, write down, or speak won't always come in the form you expect, but eventually, it will happen when it's meant to," Russell wrote.

She added:

"Thank you all for your support and 500,000 of you guys love 🫶 road to a milliiii."

Masai Russell will be commencing her 2025 season by competing at the Millrose Games, which is slated for February 8 and will be held at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York.
