Masai Russell offered a glimpse of her new house months after winning the 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics in her first professional full season. Russell also competed at the Diamond League and Athlos NYC in 2024.
Masai Russell, the US NCAA record holder in the 100m hurdles, clocked a personal best time of 12.25s to finish first at the US Olympic trials and advance to the Paris finals. At the 2024 Summer Games, the 24-year-old left behind a field of Olympic and World medalists, even reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, to win the 10m hurdles in 12.33s. Her effort narrowly beat the French athlete, Cyrena Samba-Mayela.
Months after success in the French capital, Russell took to her Instagram story on December 16 to share a sneak peek into her new house, which is in the making. The picture featured a light affixed to the ceiling, a black table, and white chairs surrounding it.
She pointed at a blank white and expressed her wish to put up a picture there.
"I need a fire picture here"
Her story caption read:
"House coming together"
On November 28, Russell posted a carousel of pictures and shared her happiness of being a homeowner at the age of 24. The 3D foil balloons placed on the slab above the fireplace read 'Home.' The Olympic gold medalist's photo series featured her sibling and parents posing in front of balloons and a Christmas tree.
"HOMEOWNER AT 24! Thank you God. Thank you to my parents. Thank you to my real estate agent. 2024 just keeps getting better & better," her Instagram caption read.
Russell finished third in the 100m hurdles at her last track appearance of the season, the Athlos NYC, hosted by Serena Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder, Reddit.
Masai Russell received the Breakthrough Performer of the Year honor after her Paris success
Russell competed for the Kentucky Wildcats, achieving two silver podiums in the 100m and 400m hurdles at the 2023 NCAA Division I Championships. The same year, she raced at the USA Outdoor Championships and earned a qualification for the Worlds, anticipating the Paris Games.
Now, as the Games debutant soared to a monumental victory in Paris, USATF acclaimed her as the Breakthrough Performer of the Year. Taking to her Instagram handle, Masai Russell penned a motivational note, reading:
"I am so humbled and honored to receive this award. From the start of this year, I felt lost and confused, with little direction regarding what was happening in my life. I was tested, I doubted myself & my abilities, and I reached a point where I didn’t even recognize myself anymore."
The Olympian added:
"I am here to tell you that there’s nothing you can’t do without faith and belief. Never say never. You will achieve what you work for and dreams do come true! I am a living testimony. Thank you all for the love & continuous support. I love you all."
Russell has a personal best time (7.75s) in the 60m hurdles, the 13th of all time. Moreover, her personal best (12.25s) in the 100m hurdles is tied for fifth of all time.
