Mason Parris is one of the top prospects for the United States at the Paris Olympics 2024. Parris will represent the nation in the men’s 125kg freestyle at the quadrennial games.
Parris will begin his quest for his maiden Olympic medal on August 9 where he will feature in the qualifications round of the men’s 125kg. In Round 1, he will face Mongolian wrestler Mönkhtöriin Lkhagvagerel, a two-time World Championships medalist.
If Mason Parris advances to the quarterfinals in the men’s 125kg category, he will face either Egyptian wrestler Diaaeldin Kamal or two-time European Championships bronze medalist Giorgi Meshvildishvili.
However, if Parris defeats all his opponents to reach the semifinal, he will face one of the following top competitors including multiple-time European Championships medalist Robert Baran from Poland, the 2020 Asian Champion Yusup Batirmurzaev of Kazakhstan, Ukraine’s Yurii Idzinskyi, or two-time Olympic medalist and three-time World Championships gold medalist Geno Petriashvili of Georgia.
Some other prominent names who the 24-year-old could challenge if he advances to the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics are the two-time World Champion Amir Hossein Zare, and the 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist Taha Akgül, among other top names.
On August 9, the qualifications (Round of 16) will take place at 11:30 AM Central European Time (CET) or Paris Time/ 5:30 AM Eastern Time (ET) onwards, after which the quarterfinals of the 125kg freestyle will take place. Later in the night, the semi-finals of the event will be held at around 6:15 PM CET or 12:15 PM ET onwards.
The repechage rounds will begin at 11:00 AM CET/ 5:00 AM ET onwards, while the final is scheduled for 7:30 PM CET/ 1:30 PM ET onwards on August 10.
Mason Parris' road to Paris Olympics 2024
Mason Parris achieved a quota place for the Paris Olympics for the USA at the 2023 Wrestling World Championships by winning the bronze medal in the men’s 125kg freestyle wrestling. She then went on to become the Pan American Champion in 2024.
At the 2024 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials, he featured directly in the Best-of-Three Championship series final where he eventually defeated Hayden Zillmer by 2-0 to confirm his place in the Paris Olympics squad.
In addition to this, Parris' other top achievements are becoming the junior world champion in 2019, NCAA champion in 2023 in 285 lb, among others.
