The swimmer's pregnant wife stood in the stands with a sign that read, "Ryan, It's a Girl," surprising the Olympian with the gender reveal of their child. It was already a special night for Murphy, who clocked 52.39s to claim the third place in the 100m backstroke. Thomas Ceccon and Xu Jiayu recorded 52.00s and 52.32s to finish first and second, respectively. The news of Murphy having a girl made the moment even more special.
Ryan Murphy and Bridget Kontiinen started dating in 2016 and tied the knot on September 30, 2023. She lauded the 29-year-old for his achievement on her Instagram story. Highlighting the memorable night, she posted a picture of them sharing an adorable kiss and wrote:

Ryan Murphy's wife Bridget Konttinen is also an athlete. She is from Tiburon, California, and started rowing competitively in high school. She won the US Rowing Youth National Championship in 2013.
Bridget further pursued her education and rowing career at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, she started to work with Nike full-time.
The couple met when they were students at the University of California. They announced their engagement on May 15, 2022, and tied the knot on September 30, 2023.

According to ESPN, Ryan Murphy spoke about the sweet gesture of his wife on Day 3 of the Paris Olympics. The swimmer said he wasn't aware of the gender and was surprised by the news. He added that everything will be dedicated to his daughter.
"That was the first time I heard," Murphy said. "Obviously, I knew she was pregnant. We both thought it was going to be a boy. Everything is going to be dedicated to that little girl."
Exuding excitement about being a girl-dad, the swimmer said:
"Up to this point, swimming has really been the most important thing in my life. Pretty much every major decision I make is with swimming in mind, and that's going to change coming up. I'm really looking forward to what's coming."
Murphy now has a total of seven Olympic medals, of which four are gold that he clinched at the 2016 Games and the 2020 Games. One of his medals is silver, nabbed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the other two are bronze medals which he won in Tokyo and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
