The 2024 edition of the Chicago Marathon has come to an end, and United States' distance runner Sara Hall left her mark on the athletic community with her impressive performance. She finished among the top 10 American runners at the Chicago event.
Before participating in Sunday's Chicago Marathon, Hall had already established herself as one of the most promising distance runners for the United States, having won gold at the 2011 Pan American Games and a silver medal at the World Marathon Majors. In addition, the 41-year-old is a 12-time USATF champion and set a half-marathon national record in 2022 with a time of 1:07:15, a record later surpassed by Emily Sisson.
In her recent appearance in the Chicago event, the runner finished ninth among the top American athletes at the marathon, completing the race with a time of 2:30:12s. She finished behind notable American runners such as Susanna Sullivan, Lindsay Flanagan, Emma Bates, Gabi Rooker, Lauren Hagans, Annie Frisbie, Amy Davis-Green, and Anne-Marie Blaney.
In the post-race interview, Sara Hall seemed disappointed by her performance. She said the result was not what she had trained for and acknowledged that the race was challenging for her.
"It's pretty tough out there not quite what I train for so yeah I think I haven't debriefed with Ryan yet to figure out what went wrong out there," she said via LetsRundotcom YouTube channel. [0:07 onwards]
Sara Hall reflects on on her athletic future - "I feel pretty tired, need a big break"
In a follow-up conversation with LetsRundotcom, Sara Hall reflected on her future plans. She said:
"We have some ideas going in, she said. But definitely I feel pretty tired from this buildup, so I think at some point like a big break, but I think I'm really excited even though this race didn't go how I wanted to, just like how my body handled the training, so I'm really excited for the next buildup."
