American rapper Megan Thee Stallion is set to perform during the opening ceremony of the Athlos NYC track meet, launched by Serena Williams’s husband Alexis Ohanian, which is scheduled for September 26, 2024, at the Icahn Stadium in New York City. A few of Stallion’s top works are Big Ole Freak, Girls in the Hood, and Savage (Remix) among others.
On April 23, Ohanian announced the inauguration of a track and field meet alongside American track sensation Gabby Thomas at the Business of Women’s Sports Conference in New York City. Initially called the ‘776 Invitational’, the track meet was later renamed as Athlos NYC, which is the Greek word for 'athlete'.
Notably, Thomas is also the first athlete of the women's only track meet. Some of the prominent accomplishments of the American athlete are being a two-time Olympic medalist and World Championships medalist.
Recently, Citius Mag shared the news of Stallion performing at the track meeting on their X (formerly Twitter) stating:
“Organizers for @athlos NYC announced @theestallion will perform at their women's-only track meet at Icahn Stadium on Sept. 26th.”
Earlier, the prize money for the event’s top three of the Athlos track meet was also revealed. The winner is set to earn $60,000, while the second and third-placed athletes will be collecting a cash prize of $25,000 and $10,000 respectively.
In addition to launching the Athlos NYC track meet, Alexis Ohanian is an internet entrepreneur and investor popular for being the co-founder and former executive chairman of Reddit, alongside Steve Huffman and Aaron Swartz.
