Former Nebraska Cornhuskers player Merritt Beason is set to start her tenure with her new team, Atlanta Vibe. This comes days before her team's first clash of the season on Friday against the defending champions of the league, Omaha Supernovas.
Beason was the first pick of Atlanta Vibe during the PVF draft held in November courtesy of her leadership skills and her offensive performance for her collegiate side (1359 total kills at an average of 3.061/set). Notably, she was also a finalist for the 2023 Honda Award.
Just a month after the draft, Beason is set to start her professional career with Atlanta Vibe under former Husker, Kayla Banwarth as head coach. In the Instagram post shared by Atlanta Vibe's Instagram handle, Beason can be seen donning the red jersey of the team and posing with a volleyball.
The caption of the post remarked:
"Ready to make her debut in the 🅰️ Next is 6’4 Opposite @merbson from @huskervb".
Merritt Beason comments on joining the Pro Volleyball Federation League after competing at the college level
Merritt Beason recently shared her thoughts on joining the PVF league in its initial years after a successful tenure with the University of Nebraska and Florida. This came during a recent press-match interview of Atlanta Vibe where Beason and her teammate, Taya Baller feature.
Beason spoke about the craze of volleyball in Nebraska which she experienced for a couple of years before making the professional side. She also said that she is quite excited to join the PVF league in its initial years and be a part of its growth. She said (at 00:18 via the Atlanta Vibe YouTube channel):
"Yeah I think obviously volleyball is a huge thing in Nebraska and we both got the opportunity to experience that and so just having te opportunity to play here in the States and continue that growth is just so exciting to be a part of. I mean we both get to be part of the second season as a pro volleyball league in America and so just to be a part of like the stepping stones that are being made and the progress that's being made is really exciting."
Merritt Beason's companion during the interview, Taya Beller is a middle and right hitter with impressive collegiate stats, including 494 kills and 89 digs.
