Michael Phelps took pride in sharing the golf course with the legendary Dwyane Wade and DJ Khaled at the second edition of We the Best Foundation x Jordan Golf Classic, a charity event hosted by DJ Khaled. Phelps has been an avid golfer since he retired from swimming in 2016.
After Phelps' initial retirement in 2012, he first shifted his attention to golf and even starred in the Golf Channel’s reality series The Haney Project, where Tiger Woods' coach Hank Haney helped passionate celebrity golfers improve their games. Recently, the greatest Olympian of all time competed in TMT's The Match: Superstars golf tournament, succumbing to Wayne Gretzky in the final.
Recently, Phelps attended another tournament, We The Best Foundation x Jordan Golf Classic by DJ Khaled's We The Best organization, dedicated to helping individuals from underserved communities and supporting non-profit organizations.
In a recent Instagram story, the 28-time Olympic gold medalist shared a picture with the former basketball point guard, Dwayne Wade, and the legendary record producer, DJ Khaled. His caption read:
"The squad!! Epic Day!!!"
The event's second edition kicked off with the reception on December 5, followed by a Golf Classic on December 5 and a celebration with DJ Khaled at LIV the next day. The star-studded reception event welcomed celebrities like Nicole Tuck, Matt Barnes, John Wall, Marcus Jordan, Jeff Hamilton, Ice Spice, and others.
Michael Phelps once shared how his confidence in the swimming pool helped him on the golf course
Having earned the all-time record for Olympic gold medals and several world record times, the former swimmer revealed that the confidence that earned him several gold podiums over the years, also helped him transition into golf seamlessly. (via Golf.com; January 30, 2024)
"I think confidence. I think that goes a long way. I was always confident in the swimming pool, which meant I got the results that I wanted, most of the time. Preparation is something that’s always important. So if I have the confidence factor and I believe I can do something, then I feel like that’s kinda really all it is."
He further said that his beginning with golf was not smooth but he figured out ways to improve, nonetheless.
"I’ve gotten to the point where I take a step back and try to figure out what the basics are to hit a golf ball. I know how to hit good shots. So it’s just finding a way to get out of your own way. That was something that I did in the pool — just let it happen."
Eight years into retirement, Michael Phelps continues to help underserved families and underprivileged swimming talents with tools and support through his eponymous Michael Phelps Foundation.
