Ryan Murphy opens up about qualifying for the Paris Olympics 2024

Ryan Murphy expressed his feelings about making it to Paris after his 100m backstroke win on Day 3 of the Olympic trials. In the post-race interview, the 28-year-old talked about what keeps him motivated and helps him improve. As quoted by Swimming World Magazine, Murphy said

"I try to be consistent as possible everyday. I feel like I’ve struck a good balance of some days, it’s pulling motivation from just raw competitiveness and some days it’s pulling motivation from focusing on technique."

He further acknowledged the support he received from people around him that allowed him to remain consistent with his routine.

"Some days, it’s really just being disciplined with your routine. So I feel like I’ve got a really good group of people around me that keep me grounded, and you know, I’m really motivated to try to improve," Murphy said.

A four-time Olympic gold medalist, Murphy dominated the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics as he clinched gold medals in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, and 4x100m medley relay. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he won the 4x100m medley relay and set the world record in the same event with teammates Michael Andrew, Caeleb Dressel, and Zach Apple.

The American will be next competing in Paris, which is scheduled to be held from July 26 - Aug 11, 2024.
