Michael Phelps and Lindsey Vonn extended heartfelt condolences to Shaun White after his dog, Steve passed. The 13-year-old French bulldog was not keeping well for a while and passed away in his sleep peacefully.
Shaun White, the most decorated snowboarder, holds the world record for the most X Games gold medals in snowboarding. He became the first person to compete in the Summer and Winter X Games in two sports, doing so in snowboarding and skateboarding.
White retired after competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics, but continues to associate himself with the sporting world. He recently took his girlfriend Nina Dobrev on her first Olympic trip to Paris, while the latter recovered from knee surgery. White and Dobrev roamed the streets of Paris and visited skateboarding venues.
Soon after their Paris trip, White took to social media to announce the passing of his pet dog, Steve, in a post on Instagram. He said he was "absolutely devastated" by the loss of his nearly 13-year-old French bulldog:
"With a heavy heart, I wanted to let everyone know that Steve’s health took a turn for the worse recently and he passed away peacefully at the age of almost 13. I’m absolutely devastated by this loss. I raised him from a pup and he was the perfect amount of fun, loving, and crazy that you would want in a dog. He gave big French Bulldog energy till the end. I feel blessed to have had him as my dog and best bud. Love you forever buddy," he captioned.
In response, the greatest Olympian of all time Michael Phelps extended his condolences to White. He said:
"Sorry for your loss"
Lindsey Vonn, the 82-time World Cup winner in alpine skiing, too added a note of solace, saying:
"I’m SO sorry! 💔 sending all the love"
Steve once stopped Shaun White from skateboarding
In a previous Instagram post, White had showed his dog's fun side, as the latter bit the Olympian's board, thus preventing the Olympian from skateboarding. The video also showed the latter attempting to take back his gear from Steve:
"Find someone who supports your passions..." White's tongue-in-cheek caption read.
Now when his four-legged companion has passed away, the Olympian has posted pictures with the dog in his Instagram stories. One of his stories was a monochrome picture of Steve's. The caption read:
"I miss you so much."
White had another bulldog named Rambo, who passed away some years ago. In one of his Instagram stories, White shared a picture of 3 dogs, including Steve and Rambo, writing "Steve is with his brothers now."
