Michael Phelps showed off his sporty looks as he stepped out for a golf session on Friday, months after he attended the Paris Olympics, among other sporting events. The greatest Olympian of all time retired from swimming in 2016 but continues to satiate his competitiveness on the golf course.

Michael Phelps, the 23-time Olympic gold medalist, has won 82 medals across major competitions. His success has earned him the World Swimmer of the Year award eight times and eleven American Swimmer of the Year honors. Phelps' most successful Games edition was in 2008 Beijing, where he amassed eight gold medals to surpass Mark Spitz's seven-gold-wins record achieved in the 1972 edition.

After the 2012 Olympics, having won four golds and two silvers, the 38-year-old drew curtains to his career. However, he returned to the pool in 2014, building up to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Adding five more golds and two silver to his repertoire, the swimmer retired at that Games but continued to stay associated with sports.

Since then, Michael Phelps has been golfing into retirement to get his competitive fix.

"I’m a super competitive human, so being able to play golf and compete with anybody you possibly play with is so cool. I can go out and play with (world No. 2 Jon) Rahm and he gives me a ton of shots, but I still compete. That’s one of the things I love about golf," he said in a 2023 interview with Boardroom.

On November 8, 2024, he posted an Instagram story of himself on the golf course for a Friday golf session. He donned a white T-shirt overlayered with a black puffer jacket, sunglasses, and a golf-themed cap.

Phelps once shared that he was obsessed with the sport and even made his wife fall in love with golf.

"I’m just obsessed. I got my wife obsessed too, which is nice so we get to get out and play a ton," he said to Boardroom.

Phelps also talked about how the game was more mental than being physically taxing.

In an interview with Golf.com from January 2024, Phelps expressed how he would want his four sons to take up the sport in his ideal universe since the kids have been watching him obsess with the sport.

"In my dream world, I would love for them to play golf and give it a run to try to be a professional golfer. I’m in love with the sport. They watch me obsess about the sport. I have a golf club sitting next to my desk. I always have things around, to try to get feel. So hopefully they’re picking up on that."

However, he also talked about letting them follow their passion and not forcing them into golf.

"At the end of the day, I want them to just be themselves and find something they’re passionate about."

Phelps and his wife share four sons, Boomer, Beckett, Maverick, and Nico.
